Q: Is Virtual Fitness Coaching less interactive than in-person training?
A: No, with in-person training I might see someone once a week, and in the 7 days between have no contact with them. With Virtual Fitness Coaching, my clients frequently speak to me multiple times per week. If anything I find online training more interactive, especially for people who are generally good communicators.
Q: I’m not very tech savvy, will I struggle with Virtual Fitness Coaching?
A: I’ll let Linda answer this, here are some snippets from the review she left of her training with me: “Steve’s App is so user friendly, even for technophobes like me!…….I couldn’t recommend Steve’s training more – and there is absolutely no need whatsoever to feel in any way reluctant to do his online training. It really does feel live and connected, and is simple to use – if I can do it, anyone can! – And I haven’t looked back since making the decision to give it a go.”
Q: Will I have to sit in front of a camera every time I workout?
A: No, not at all. You’ll need to upload postural pictures and videos of your assessment exercises for your initial assessment unless I’ve seen you in-person beforehand. After that, you can easily upload technique videos to me of any exercise if you’d like some reassurance and coaching from me on them, but this is purely at your discretion as and when you feel you need or want to.
On occasion, I may see something in your workout logs that indicates that it would be worth me checking your technique on a specific exercise, so I may ask you to film that exercise and upload to me for feedback. Some of my clients only send me videos if I’ve asked to check their technique, and others send them to me regularly because they like the feedback. I welcome whichever approach suits the individual!
Q: Does Virtual Fitness Coaching only work if someone is already very motivated?
A: It could be tempting to think that, but motivation is more related to the individual’s approach to their health and fitness goals than how their training is delivered. For example, in order to get the best results from strength training, I like my clients to workout twice per week. If someone has an in-person session, they get the accountability of having me next to them there and then, but then they’re on their own for the rest of the week. What they do in those other 6 days is totally down to them. With Virtual Fitness Coaching, they will have access to all of their personally individualised workouts they need to do to achieve their goals each week, video and written guidance from me on how to do all of their exercises, they know I can see whether they’re doing them or not, and they can contact me for extra support if they’re having difficulties or challenges in between. In my opinion, this approach gives higher levels of accountability.
Q: What kinds of goals can you train me for?
A: Any goal that I would help you with in-person! The main things I help people with most are fitness for life, anti-aging fitness, sports specific fitness, and ante and post natal fitness. I’ve personally created a library of over 300 online training exercises, and I’m still adding more. I’ve gone to this level of effort so that I can train people of any ability for their health and fitness goals. I demonstrate each exercise personally and provide written instructions for each one too.
Q: How do I access my workouts?
A: You can access your workouts from any device connected to the internet, anywhere in the world. Most people use their smart phones but some use their computer or tablet. You’ll have your own password protected online personal training account that only you can access.
Q: Do I need any equipment?
A: I highly recommend having access to some exercise equipment. The reason being, that bodyweight only workouts often neglect certain muscle groups that are hard to train without equipment. When muscle groups are left out in training programs, it often creates imbalances which eventually lead to joint pain. While some of my clients train at a gym, this doesn’t mean you need to if you don’t want to. Many of my home training clients train with a simple resistance band kit in addition to bodyweight exercises. Some others opt for a bit more equipment at home or even full home gyms. I can guide you on what equipment will be best for you based on your goals, budget, and space requirements.
Q: Is anything else included?
A: Yes! We’ll do an assessment to make sure we get you started at the right level for you, and you can have regular follow up postural assessments if you like so we can see how your body is changing from your training and exercise. You’ll also get a welcome pack which gives you all the information you’ll need to know to maximise your training!
